“So, when your Aunt asks why her 1.2GHz computer isn’t fast enough to run an online word processor that has the same f***ing features as the 1987 version of Corel [sic] WordPerfect, you don’t have an answer for her. There is no justification.”
Oh man. This one had me laughing so hard I was in tears. Not sure how this is the first time I’ve run across this (found via this project’s page which showed up on HN today; also, HN).
There is more than a kernel of truth in here, but I suspect the author was intentionally trolling. If he is in complete earnest, depending on how you view the market today, you could argue either that this is some tasty claim chowder or that it is right on the mark. After all, Chrome OS is actually a thing now — by which I simply mean that “it exists”, not that it is a phenomenon. The question is whether anybody really takes it seriously, or will take it seriously. I’d like to think that the war is over and “rich clients” have won, but it could just as easily be the case that web apps are only starting to find their footing now, and just you wait another 5-10 years, by golly. (*shudder*)
